Born and raised in Hong Kong, Jingan Young 楊靜安 is an award-winning playwright,  journalist, and editor.  She holds a BA (Hons) in English with Film Studies from King’s College London and a Master of Studies in Creative Writing from the University of Oxford. She is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Film Studies at King’s College London.

Her research focuses on the cinematic representations of the area of London’s Soho in British cinema. Her thesis ‘Soho on Screen’ is currently being supervised by Dr. Mark Shiel and Dr. Lawrence Napper of King’s College London (expected 2019).

This blog will follow her journey as she enters her final year of research. Excerpts, original essays, videos, maps, stills and filmographies. A love letter to the severely under-represented area of London in cinema – London’s own ‘Forbidden City’.

Visit this page for more information on her research. She has also begun creating film essays in an attempt to further understand and explore new ways of looking at Soho, past and present, real, imaginary.

She welcomes anyone who wishes to contribute to her ever-extending list of Soho films jingan.young@kcl.ac.uk
